CHECKLIST IN BUYING A SECOND HAND, RECONDITIONED, OR REFURBISHED CELLPHONE OR LAPTOP

These are the important things to keep in mind in buying a second hand cellular phone or it may apply in buying a laptop also. Because we don’t want to keep in returning on shops where we bought the item we make sure it’s in good quality even if it’s only second hand or reconditioned phone. Some, maybe basics to you but I do believe you overlook some of it. In no particular order, here’s the list;

  • Infrared. Is it working? Make sure to try it.
  • Bluetooth. Try it also.
  • Memory Card. Try to save on it. Learn how to insert and remove. Also, be aware of memory capacity. And make sure that the memory card comes with adaptor so that you can insert it anywhere.
  • Battery. The battery is flat. Try to spin in flat surface, if it turns hard or it won’t turn, and then it’s a good battery.
  • Games installed. Rule of thumb is that games aren’t in Chinese language, unless, of course, if you’re a Chinese.
  • Camera. Clear picture the same as with the same model/unit. Try the camera, zoom feature, etc. Also, if video capable, try to record one and see to it that it records the sound/voice.
  • Try the charger. Ask for warranty. Most of the time, charger is with different warranty terms.
  • Keypad. Press all keys.
  • Power On and Off.
  • Is it really the model/unit you are buying? Cellphone technicians can modify cellphones, of course, and it will look like another model/unit of cellphone. For instance, N8210 will look like N8250 just by changing or modifying the housing case. To make sure of the model dial *#0000#. Or look at the sticker at the back.
  • Adapter for the charger. Should be included without additional payment.
  • Make a call. Rule of thumb, no foul sounds.
  • USB cable. Is it functioning?
  • Ask about the warranty of the phone. Negotiate for the longest possible time.
  • Play music. Scroll pictures.
  • Try the headset.
  • Check the speakers.
  • Are the stickers at the back intact?
  • Send and receive text.
